The region of Aix and Salon

The Aix region runs from Mount Sainte-Victoire to the banks of Durance where it meets the Salon region.

The region of Aix
Aix-en-Provence was once the capital of Provence, and is rich in history. You'll appreciate the quality of lifestyle, the beauty of the buildings, the many fountains, the shady avenues - and the students make the place lively.
Aix is famous for its festivals, and has been a favourite stomping ground for many artists, including Paul Cézanne, who made Aix and the Mount Sainte-Victoire famous throughout the world.

The region of Salon
Lying between the rich plain of the Durance in the north and the green Touloubre valley in the south, the Salon region has contrasting scenery. Salon-de-Provence was the commercial heart of Basse-Provence. Resting on the last relief of the Alpilles hills and on the edge of the Crau plains, the town seems to have always looked skywards. Once the adopted home of the famous astrologer Nostradamus, Salon is famous today for its aeronautical connections.

"Cette terre vous porte, tenez de Paris, je la sens encore."
PAUL CEZANNE
